Frequently Asked Questions

  • You may check in any time after 4:00 pm, and we ask that guests check out by 10:00 am.

We will gladly store your luggage if you arrive before your check-in time and wish to explore the area.

We offer early check-in and late check-out for a fee, but they are not always guaranteed to be available. Please email us for more details or click the banner in your booking confirmation email.

  • You can read our cancellation policy here on our site, but please be aware that booking sites (like Vrbo or Airbnb) may be slightly different. We always strive to have the least restrictive cancellation policy we can when you book direct with us.

  • That depends, but we generally like to make all parties happy if possible. Email us, and let's talk.

  • Again, it depends. First of all, you'll always get the best rate by booking direct with us. So begin the inquiry process and check the rat`es you get on this site, then let us know what would make it work for you. Please email us, and we'll see if we can make a deal.

  • While we used to have pretty crummy internet in this little valley, it’s greatly improved in recent years, and now we have reliable gigabit internet throughout the house, including the parking pad and the backyard.

Our service is at the fastest speed available, and our network hardware is enterprise-grade, fast, and well-configured. You can easily handle several people on Zoom all day, and using a VPN to connect to the office server won’t make you want to pull your hair out.

  • Yes! We are all dog-lovers, and we’ve created a house that goes great with canine friends! We just ask that you and your dog behave in a friendly, controlled manner around the other humans and dogs living nearby. You must pick up after your dog (yes, even in winter!), and your dog must be under voice command or on a leash when out and about in the neighborhood.

    Our dog-friendly amenities:

    food and water dishes

poop bag dispenser by the door

    towels for wet/dirty dogs

a shower set up for dog bathing

    dog shampoo and conditioner

and a bottle of Nature’s Miracle in the cleaning closet, just in case

  • We have a large, well-maintained propane grill that guests are generally free to use.

There is one important exception: using a grill of any kind is prohibited during Red Flag Warnings.

Charcoal grills are banned at all times by local ordinances.

When the fire danger is not extreme, you may use our propane grill, and we keep an extra tank of propane filled and ready to go in the deck closet. All the tools you'll need to cook on the grill are in good condition and stored in the entryway.

  • Our chalet is at 6,440’ above sea level. It is certainly noticeable to make the transition from sea level, but it is not so high that we find any negative impact. The first few days of ski season, we may find ourselves out of breath a bit more easily than usual, but that quickly fades as our conditioning at elevation improves.

  • For the full list of what we provide, please check out this page in our Welcome Guide.

  • We are well aware of the fire risk in Tahoe. (Getting fire insurance of any kind is neither cheap nor easy.) While smoke from nearby fires can put a damper on some activities, we have powerful HEPA filters that vary their speed in response to the surroundings, and the air in the chalet remains quite clear even in severely smoky times.

When you book a stay with us, you will have an option to purchase "cancel for any reason" (CFAR) insurance from a travel insurance company, and we send a detailed email with suggestions on how to research this and other options. We also list some of the reasons guests may wish to purchase travel insurance. You may use the link on our booking platform to purchase the CFAR insurance, or you may choose to protect your booking with another insurance product if you find it appropriate for your group.

(We are not insurance agents, do not receive any compensation for anything related to insurance, do not handle claims, and do not provide insurance advice.)

That said, we don't want any of our guests to feel unsafe or risk their health. Our cancellation policy is generous when it comes to refunds due to natural disasters, including forest fires, so please get in touch if you are concerned.

  • Yes, there are bears, and they’re amazingly cool. We see black bears relatively frequently in the neighborhood, though they are less common in our part of the valley. They are not dangerous — they are scavengers more than hunters — unless you get between a mama and her babies or otherwise mess with them. Quiet enjoyment and photos only, please!
