The Alpine Chalet’s Rules

We love hosting guests at our property! We are short-term rental guests as well as hosts, and we have no interest in micromanaging, pestering, or nickel-and-diming you.

We have put a lot of thought, hard work, and love into this place, and we go to great lengths to ensure you have a relaxing stay without us bugging you or your guests.

These guidelines help us sleep at night, so thank you for taking the time to learn more about our rules.

Short-term Rental Agreement

We require a signed short-term rental agreement from all guests within 48 hours of booking. The agreement has the same terms as those listed on Airbnb, so there are no surprises, new terms, or anything like that. Details will be sent by email automatically upon booking.

ID Verification

Unfortunately, fraud is a growing problem in the short-term rental industry. To keep everyone safe, we require identity verification from all our guests when they book. The process is quick—we just need to see an ID (like a driver's license or passport) and a selfie to satisfy our requirements. Details will be sent by email shortly after booking. Verification must be completed within 48 hours or the booking may be subject to cancellation.

Minimum Age to Rent

We require the primary renter to be at least 25 years of age at the time of booking.

Security Deposit

We believe in stocking the chalet with nice things for guests to enjoy. To keep things nice for everyone, a $500 security deposit will be collected 4 days prior to your stay and returned to you within 7 days of your departure. Typically, we put a hold on your credit card for $500 and release it after our cleaner has been through. Contact us if you’d prefer to use cash or some other method.

Accidental Damage

We get it—the chalet fits a lot of people and dogs, and sometimes things break. It’s ok, but please inform us prior to your departure so we can agree to a price before you leave. (It's just so much easier that way!) We and the guests coming next thank you.

Maximum Occupancy

By local ordinance, we are limited to 16 adult guests. If your party includes children under 16, then we may permit up to 20 guests total.

Smoking

Smoking is allowed only on the deck—no smoking in the house whatsoever. Please use the ashtrays and be mindful of fire risks. Smoking indoors or littering cigarette butts will result in a cleaning fee of $300 or more.

Fire Safety

Fire risk is extremely high in Tahoe. This is no joke: you will likely see signs along the road advising you to know your evacuation route. We provide a propane grill for your use. By local ordinance, there are absolutely no charcoal grills and no campfires allowed. Do not light candles—other than birthday candles, if it's someone's birthday. (We're not the grinch, just appropriately terrified of wildfires!) No fireworks and no discharging firearms on the property.

Garbage & Recycling

We have four 30-gallon trash cans inside the bear boxes in front of the chalet. Garbage is collected weekly, so there is generally ample space for quite a bit of garbage. Trash is collected on Mondays, and guests are permitted to leave bagged garbage just outside the bear box at 7:00 AM on Monday morning for collection. At no other time is it permitted to leave garbage outside the bear box. On departure, all trash must fit inside the bear boxes or be removed by the guest when they leave. Failure to remove excess trash will result in a garbage removal fee of $200 per bag of garbage.

Bears

Bears are frequently seen in the area, and they generally pose no danger. DO NOT get between a mama and her (adorable) cubs, but other than that, they're most likely going to want nothing to do with you. Bears are smart, and the track record with bears and humans is sadly not on the side of the bears. If you see one, please respect that this is a beautiful, wild animal, that you are lucky to witness it going about its business, and leave it there.

Sadly, bears are killed by the game warden when they become more comfortable around humans and come around (or into) houses looking for food. To keep the bears from relying on humans for food, use the bear-proof garbage can when you take out the trash. Please remove all food and scented toiletries from parked cars to prevent damage and keep the bears safe from harm. Also, locking your car doors will prevent bears from opening them (yes, they all know how) and eating your bag of chips or whatever. More importantly, it will prevent bears from becoming trapped in your car and causing damage to the car or bear.

We have had several costly bear break-ins in the past, and the bear deterrent fence is an essential component of our prevention system. Please re-arm the bear fence when you leave. Failure to re-arm the bear fence at your departure will incur a fee of $250.

Quiet Hours

The chalet is in a quiet community, and our neighbors are year-round residents with young children. Quiet hours are from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. No loud music, parties, or disruptive behavior. No events.

Dogs

We are dog-lovers and are happy to offer dog-friendly accommodation! That said, we have a few expectations:

  • Dogs are allowed off-leash if they reliably respond to voice commands; if they are not trained to respond to voice commands, you must use a leash when your dog is outdoors.

  • Dogs must not pose a danger or nuisance to people or dogs in the community.

  • Please pick up after your dog and dispose of dog waste properly. We have a dispenser for plastic bags near the front door, so please take a bag if you need it, leave a bag if you have it.

  • We have dedicated dog towels near the front door. Please use one to clean or dry your dog's paws and body if they need it.

  • A flat-rate pet fee of $100 per stay will be collected on booking. The pet fee covers up to four dogs, but we may allow more, depending on breed and activity level. Contact us if this applies to you.

Shoes Off

To keep things dirt-free and tidy inside the chalet, we ask everyone to remove their shoes as they enter the house. You may leave them on one of the shoe racks in the entryway. Thank you!

Thanks for reading our rules.
Your attention truly means a lot to us. ❤︎
